뮤지컬 [키스 미 케이트] [한글자막]
1949년 토니상의 베스트 뮤지컬의 영예를 안았던 'Kiss Me Kate'는 1948년부터 1951년까지 무려 1,077회나 연속 공연될 정도로 엄청난 인기를 누렸던 작품으로, 뮤지컬 작곡가 폴 콜터의 대표작이자 20세기 중반 브로드웨이의 황금기를 대표하는 걸작으로 지금까지도 큰 인기를 누리고 있다. 우리나라에서도 2001년과 2010년에 공연되어 큰 성공을 거두었던 작품이다. 극중극의 독특한 액자 구조를 가지고 있는데, 극 중에서 공연되는 작품은 세익스피어의 '말괄량이 길들이기'에 기초하였다. 이혼한 한 쌍의 배우들이 뮤지컬 버전의 '말괄량이 길들이기'에 함께 출연하면서 벌어지는 흥미로운 에피소드들을 다룬 작품이다. 휴머니즘, 사랑, 갈등, 유머가 넘치는 드라마는 물론 아름다운 음악과 춤, 화려한 의상과 무대 등 즐길 거리들로 가득하다. 본 영상은 2002년 런던 웨스트엔드의 빅토리아 팰리스 극장에서의 공연을 옮긴 것으로, 브로드웨이를 대표하는 두 뮤지컬스타인 브렌트 바렛과 레이첼 요크가 주연을 맡았다.
Brush up your Shakespeare - November sees the long-awaited release on DVD of the London production of Cole Porter‘s Kiss Me Kate, revived for Broadway in 2001. It‘s one of Porter‘s best-known musicals showcasing some of his greatest songs (?Too Darn Hot“, ?So In Love“, ?Why Can‘t You Behave“, "Wunderbar“, ?Another Op‘nin; Another Show“) and based on Shakespeare‘s The Taming Of The Shrew.
Filmed live in front of the Victoria Palace Theatre audience, this show boasts a cast including Brent Barrett and Rachel York, veterans of the multiple award-winning North American production, as well as one of Hollywood‘s current leading heartthrobs, Colin Farrell.
